Hello friends and colleagues!

Our next Ontario Reggio Association/York University documentation study session will be held March 25, from 10 -12, at our usual meeting place: Room 283B, Winters College, York University. There will be a sign posted on the doors by the parking lot on the south side of the building to guide you to the room.

These study sessions are offered as a support for educators working with documentation in their practice and are open to everyone interested in having their own documentation studied and/or studying the documentation of others. Everyone is welcome. You may attend with or without documentation and you may be experienced with our processes of studying documentation or you may be just beginning to think about documentation. You might be a documenter or you might be in a position supporting educators using documentation in child care or school settings. We appreciate all perspectives in our sessions.

Please feel free to bring documentation in any stage or form of development; however, studying documentation on a computer screen is difficult in a group setting, so please bring printed documentation for the session.

Last month we had the opportunity to study an interesting piece of documentation from a child care setting where a young girl was testing her theories of materials that might be attracted to a magnet. The child (and educator in this case) made a surprise discovery when she was testing her theories by engaging with all sorts of materials in the environment. The educator’s disposition of attentiveness and openness allowed this surprise discovery as the environment and materials became the provocateur and invitation to learning for this inquisitive child. A pleasant discovery made together with child and educator – learning together.
