*** SOLD OUT *** Canadian Study Week in Reggio Emilia

March 11, 2018 - March 16, 2018

*** SOLD OUT ***

Interest in Reggio Emilia’s approach to education has grown in our province in the wake of The Wonder of Learning exhibit. The Ontario Reggio Association is eager to blow on the embers of this interest. We are organizing the registration of participants for the Canadian Study Week in Reggio Emilia, March 11 – 16, 2018 and collaborating with Reggio Children to plan the events for the week. The theme will be Pedagogical Documentation as visible listening: Building cultures of childhood and democratic citizenship.

Please register for this event through Eventbrite. All participants must be members of the Ontario Reggio Association. The registration fee for the study week is $2,100 CAD. The registration fee includes presentations by educators, pedagogisti and atelieristi, 5 buffet lunches, morning and afternoon breaks when required by the program, and bus transportation when required by the program. It also includes a visit to an infant-toddler centre one afternoon, a visit to a preschool one morning, and usually a farewell time in either a preschool or infant-toddler centre. An opportunity to experience an atelier is usually included in relation with the focus of the week. The study week typically begins on Sunday afternoon with a walking tour of the older part of the city of Reggio Emilia.

Arrangements and costs for air and ground transportation, travel insurance, accommodations and most food are the responsibility of participants and are not included in the registration fee. We advise you to book as soon as possible because of March break.

There is also a list of hotels in Reggio Emilia, recommended by Reggio Children. When you make your reservation, identify that you are attending the Canadian Study Week with Reggio Children.

In addition, Rita Carroll, a travel agent with Destiny Tours in Guelph, has organized a limited number of flight + hotel packages. Her e-mail address is rita@destinytours.com. She can also be reached toll free at 1-877- 823-9799, or 519-823- 9799 locally.

So, in summary, here is the agenda:

  • Sunday March 11, mid-afternoon (specific time TBA) walking tour of the old part of the city. This may be followed by a 5:00 p.m. opening reception at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre.
  • Monday March 12 – Friday March 16 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. presentations and ateliers at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre.
  • One of the evenings will be spent at an infant-toddler centre. Transportation will be provided.
  • One of the mornings will be spent at a preschool. Transportation will be provided.
  • One half-day will allow for opportunity to explore the city and its culture.

As other details become available, we will inform you.

The experience of being immersed in the context that has been created in Reggio Emilia is profound, and the relationships that are made there can build a foundation for change when we return to our own communities. We hope you will be able to join us.
