As Human beings we are innately social and so it is a natural tendency to look for characters and their stories in art, but in the open minded and exploration driven world of young children their insights into materials themselves often carry their intention. Expanding our awareness and sensitivity to children’s use of materials can give us new access to the complexities and multi disciplinary understanding of children’s expressions.

Through sharing documentation from our respective experiences we will be looking at the relationships that are constructed between children and materials and theories that are made and tested. We will also select examples in the Wonder of Learning exhibit to see children’s thinking made visible. Of course we will look at the practical side of providing materials appropriate to a particular investigation.
